Who serves on the Committee?

The Harpers Ferry Tree Committee officially consists of eight members:  five voting members, appointed by the Town Council; the Town's Maintenance Supervisor; one representative from the West Virginia Division of Forestry; and one representative from Potomac Edison (successor to the former Allegheny Power).  Of the five voting members, one must also be a member of the Planning Commission.  In addition, the Mayor of the Corporation of Harpers Ferry is considered an agent of the Committee.


The current members are:

 

 Kevin Carden, Chair

Mike Kennedy, Planning Commission representative

 Christy Huddle, Vice-Chair

David Cummings, Town Maintenance Supervisor (non-voting)

 Neal Peterson

 (currently vacant), WV Division of Foresty representative (non-voting)

 Steve Mahlstedt

Ron Nichols, Potomac Edison representative (non-voting)

History
The Harpers Ferry Tree Committee was officially created on 1 December 2008 by the Harpers Ferry Tree Conservation and Beautification Ordinance.  This ordinance was revised and re-adopted as the Harpers Ferry Tree Conservation Ordinance, with the latest version effective 1 March 2011.
